Little Girl

These are a few pictures that my sister scanned and sent me from when I was around Trip's age. Let's just say, my mom did not hold back when it came to all things girlie. I have straight hair that she frequently curled, I was obviously allowed to experiment with makeup at a young age, and yes, I did the beauty pageant thing as a child. It was no "Toddlers and Tiaras" but I did win Little Miss Columbia in my hometown (see picture below and bring on the comments).

I think my girlie upbringing has made me resistant to all things pink ... until now. I mean - have you been in Baby Gap lately? The ruffles and tulle and pink are all so darn cute that I feel myself jumping on the 'girlie' bandwagon as I write this! I have surprised myself at the amount of pink there already is in AK's nursery.

Needless to say, I have been thinking a lot about what our little girl will look like. Will she look like me? I'm not sure why, but the anticipation to know is so much stronger with this pregnancy than it was with Trip. The consensus has been that Trip is a blend of me and J - that he doesn't look distinctly like either of us. He is unique (and pretty darn handsome in my opinion).

I guess it won't be too long until we find out what little Miss Anna Kate looks like. I can't wait!

[Just for grins - here is a picture of me with my own "Monkey" around Trip's age. Must be where he got the obsession!]

Sweet Boy

A sweet story of my baby boy that I don't want to forget...

Last Friday I was working hard to get the house ready for company after having very little sleep the night before.

[I haven't been sleeping well for a variety of reasons - growing belly, horrible allergies, and reflux from the growing baby inside of me.]

The weather has been fairly cold here, so the dogs have been hanging out in the laundry room with a doggy door separating them from the rest of the house. I was carrying in several bags of groceries, probably more than I should have been, when I tripped over the dog door and crashed hard onto our tile kitchen floor landing on top of our groceries. Eggs, fruit and lots of other goodies somehow survived the crash, but my knees were not so lucky. Tired and hurting, I worked hard to hold back tears.

Trip was standing right next to me when I fell and I am thankful I didn't land on him. He stood there, tears welling up in his own eyes and said "Sorry Mama. Sorry Mama." over and over while he rubbed my back. This, of course, pushed me into a happy cry. I melted to see and hear my sweet little boy show such compassion.

I am so thankful for Trip's heart and the work that God is already doing in it.

I am also thankful to have landed on my knees and for the protection provided to our baby girl.

Bedtime Birthdays

For a long time, during our bedtime prayer, Trip would go down the list of people Jesus loves.

For example...
"Jesus loves Mama"
"Jesus loves Dada"
"Jesus loves Totate" (that's what he calls J's mom)
(He would often include some of his favorite movie characters)
"Jesus loves Woody"
"Jesus loves Buzz"

Around Christmas time, we talked about it being Jesus' birthday. Trip loves to sing the happy birthday song, so last night this is what his prayer consisted of ...

"Happy Birthday to Jesus"
"Happy Birthday to Gigi"
"Happy Birthday to Cappy"
"Happy Birthday to Timmy"
(and my personal favorite)
"Happy Birthday to football"

I must say, my child is pretty darn cute! I'm going to have to start a blog segment called "Trip says the darnedest things."

Ornery Hat

Trip's Uncle Collins gave him this John Deere hat for Christmas and he wears it all the time. He likes to put it on backwards. When he wears it, we have noticed he is particularly ornery. We have started calling it his "ornery hat" and he calls it his "ony hat". Can't you just see the increase in attitude in his little strong-willed eyes?

Country Bumpkin

We've created a monster.
