A story I don't want to forget.
It was 4 o'clock and it had been a really long day. I can't even remember the details of why the day had been long. It was only going to get longer because J had city council that night. I still had dinner to make, mouths to feed, kids to wash, chores to do, and bed time. Wills was fussy, Anna Kate wanted to be held, and Trip wanted attention.
I was incapable of meeting all of their needs, which is a really sad feeling as a mom trying to rely on my own strength to raise my kids. I put Wills in the Bjorn and took Anna Kate and Trip outside to play before it got too dark, hoping that just being outside would help.
It didn't. Anna Kate was tired and so she was clumsy. She fell and hurt herself. She screamed. Wills screamed in response. I bent down on my knees to brush Anna Kate off.
I think God wanted me on my knees. So, I prayed. I asked that God help me to rest on His strength alone to parent. Because I was tired. I was weak and I was not doing a great job. I learn this lesson almost daily it seems. That without the Holy Spirit working through me, I am incapable of the work the Lord has given me. The important work of being a mom.
Then, I stood up and saw my sweet boy running to me with this dandelion.
"This is for you Mama. I love you."
What a perfect way for my Heavenly Father to remind me of His own love for me.
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
